Information Governance training for healthcare professionals is as important as ever. New AI-powered notetaking tools backed by NHS England could allow clinicians to spend up to a quarter more time with patients, reducing the burden of admin and improving the quality of consultations.
Known as ambient voice technologies, these tools securely capture clinician–patient conversations and use AI to produce real-time transcriptions. By saving 2–3 minutes per consultation, clinicians can focus more on care.
NHS England has launched a national registry of 19 approved suppliers, all required to meet strict standards for clinical safety, technology assurance and data protection.
Proven benefits — and real concerns
Trials across nine NHS sites evaluated more than 17,000 patient encounters, showing a 23.5% increase in direct patient interaction time and shorter appointments overall. In A&E, clinicians were able to see 13.4% more patients per shift.
There are many benefits, but of course, many patients feel anxious about how their conversations are recorded, stored and used. With highly sensitive health data involved, trust depends on strong confidentiality, cybersecurity and information governance practices.
Why CQC compliant online training is essential
AI tools become part of everyday care, (not just note taking during appointments) meaning health and social care professionals must be confident in protecting patient data and explaining how it is used safely.
Information Governance training for healthcare professionals
Our Information Governance, Data Protection and Caldicott Protocols course is designed to support this shift. The online healthcare training covers:
- GDPR principles, rights and compliance
- Caldicott Protocols training and NHS Codes of Practice
- Confidentiality, disclosure and exceptions
- Cyber security, phishing and social engineering
- Social media risks, malware and viruses
- Record keeping, records management and Duty of Candour
GDPR healthcare training helps professionals not only stay compliant, but also reassure patients that their data is handled securely and ethically.
Building trust in an AI-enabled NHS
AI notetaking can transform care — but only if patients trust the systems behind it. By combining innovative technology with robust CPD accredited healthcare courses in data protection and confidentiality, the NHS can deliver more human-centred care without compromising security.
